Nintendo debuted the Switch 2 last week which sparked some discourse as far as pricing of the next Mario-based hardware.

Is it worth the price point ($450/500 for the console; $80 for games)? We'll get into Nintendo's the value of portability and the quality assurance that comes with Nintendo games as high pros to the console.

There's a larger discussion about the history of console and game pricing -- which seems to have gotten lost in the hooting and hollering. Ultimately, Nintendo holds a unique position in the gaming market and the anticipation some may have for the Switch 2.

42 years ago, Ridley Scott took an idea imagined by H.R. Giger and created a great science fiction/horror thriller known as "Alien". 35 years ago, James Cameron expanded on that idea to include his own fingerprints of science fiction, noir and action to create "Aliens". The Video Library was an old-school video rental establishment that was a staple of the city of Philadelphia for decades. Since 2011, Ryan Murphy's unique horror show on the FX network has provided a new and terrifying tale every year around this time full of interesting stories, a solid, rotating cast with a blend of historical context -- or context related to present day in the case of "Cult".

Many people use pop culture as a way to soothe, relate, or even escape from the drudges of reality, and your hosts wanted to take a moment to talk about how pop culture shapes how mental health is depicted in media, where those depictions came from, and what kind(s) of state it's in, now. There are some ideas from the past that still linger in popular media to this day, but are there any bright spots? Also, how do some consume pop culture and what are those purposes.

If you have a mental health disorder or believe you may have one, seek help if you are able to. It may be hard for some to admit the POSSIBILITY they have one, but as a piece of pop culture taught some of us as kids ... "Knowing is half the battle."

It's a topic that is (not so) nice, but they're doing it twice because it's a conversation that has to be addressed. Teebs and KidPhoenix once again get on their soap boxes to call out toxic fandom for what they perceive to be for no reason. (We suppose it's a REALITY that some people engage in toxic fandom for reasons.) None of those reasons make any true sense in the opinion of your hosts.

There are ways to be a fan of a property or voice your displeasure about things, but not at the expense of the enjoyment of others. Your hosts continue on the idea that companies can't make changes to existing properties (see Disney's new "The Little Mermaid", for example) and not expect there to be backlash. There's also much more advocation for the advancement of original properties to limit such backlash from happening.

Take swings, Hollywood. That's all Teebs and KidPhoenix have asked for after 24 episodes of this podcast. They'll continue to try and bore that into your brains until you finally get it!

Verhoeven directed films that are favorites of the panel (Robocop, Total Recall, and Starship Troopers). He has also directed films that were highly controversial in when they were released. Movies such as Showgirls and Basic Instinct were incredibly hyper-sexualized, and while that was Verhoeven's style in his Dutch films, the shock and awe wasn't always received well in Hollywood or by critics. Nevertheless, Verhoeven's method of story telling and weaving a message into his films (whatever the message may be) cannot be denied. Earlier this season, KidPhoenix had expressed increased interest in starting "Doctor Who" -- one of the greatest science fiction television shows in history. It's always been a blind spot for the younger of your two hosts, and he finally decided to get in a TARDIS and start his adventure with his favorite companion, Teebs -- who is LIVE AND IN STUDIO with KidPhoenix in Philadelphia, PA.

So far, KidPhoenix has gone through up to Series 4 (the last series featuring David Tennant). In this one hour podcast, Teebs helps his younger, less inexperienced Doctor Who-Head brother organize everything he's seen through the first four series. What did KidPhoenix like? What did he not like? What would he like to see more of as he continues his journey through time and space with Matt Smith, Peter Cataldi and (eventually) Jodie Whittaker. From Daleks to "Masters"... The project is their baby. Their brain child. The Adolescentia Project was created as a way to share and celebrate the ways in which music has given people the courage to become who they became to be. It is -- as they describe -- "A love letter to their -- and your -- 14-year-old selves in navigating stress, uncertainty, and excitement of adolescence.

There is an amazing discussion of how the project came to be, plans for the future, and Teebs and KidPhoenix enter their submissions to the project. They also ponder whether or not this concept can be applied to other media such as television, movies, and comics.

Your hosts love slasher films -- Teebs more than KidPhoenix since that's part of his job as a card carrying member of Horrorgasm. That being said, there have been a bevy of slasher properties since the original Friday the 13th movie. The most recent is Ghostface from the "Scream" franchise. The 25th anniversary of "Scream 2" is this year, but since your hosts did not record a podcast last year for the 25th anniversary of the original, they're doing it this year.

Scream is the slasher film that most born in 1980 and shortly after ride for most. That makes sense when you consider that generation was in high school at the time of the original film. That said, how well does this franchise stack up against some of the counterparts of its past? Scream drew from many inspirations such as Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween (as well as a small nugget from Psycho).

It's cumulative. It's self-aware and very meta. It was unique for it's time when it released, but how do Teebs and KidPhoenix feel about it in 2022?
