After a bit of a hiatus since my last episode - I'm back in camp (training camp) that is. Life, along with other things have been in the way since I last released a podcast. Here it is - nothing flash, just an update on getting back in the game. This episode speaks to the challenge of needing to change the narrative in your head. I have relied on my core internal dialogue of 'who I am' or 'who I think I am' to get me to here, but now what?

The culture of New Zealand Boxing has been toxic for years. Yes, there has been some success, but many athletes carry regret and have left the sport altogether due to selection, bullying, unprofessional behaviour, etc. We can focus on the current coach in the media, but the truth is, he is just one in a long line of poor coaches. When will something ever be done about it? I would suggest a few uppercuts be handed out, which is boxing-speak for 'fall on their sword.' I give first-hand experience around regretting the decision to throw in the towel at the peak of my sporting career, despite the media articles, talking to officials - nothing changed then, and it seems nothing has changed now.

This episode explores the idea of 'throwing in the towel' - your coach in the corner has the ability at any stage of the fight to throw in the towel. You don't actually see the towel come flying in over the ropes that often. I have used this metaphor to downplay what it is like to be in the ring - when you are only ever seconds away from success or disaster.
