The nation is talking about this new Netflix series written by Stephen Graham & Jack Thorne. A story of a 13 year old boy being arrested and accused of murdering a girl in his class. This realistic, gritty, intense and powerful story is perfectly acted with believable vulnerability and emotion and the 1 shot per episode really adds to the technicality of the crew and makes the audience live in the moment, experiencing everything in real time. We cover themes of social media, bullying, toxic masculinity, male rage, lack of respect for women and the picking up on the behaviour of male role models because of how impressionable children can be to the wrong influences. Many are dealing this one of the most perfect TV series of all time and we have to agree and its a huge talking point and inspires debates about parenting, family, schools, governments, the legal system, mental health and the hidden world of what children look at on their phones.

We have all seen it so many times but we were too young to see in the cinema first time round. We discuss the most talked about movie of 2024 and it's still a hot topic and highly relevant. This movie is a feast for the eyes with the exceptional cinematography, colour pallet, editing style and impressive directing by a Coralie Fargeat, the only female director who is nominated for an Oscar in a category full of men and we all agree deserves to win. The only problem is that horror films don't do well at the Oscars but hopefully things are about to change. This is the rebirth of Demi Moore showing how talented and brave she is with what this role demands, the risk was huge and now it's time for the reward. This isn't a surface level horror, this taps into the real world issues with societal expectations, and how we treat people, especially women who are getting older, but the themes can relate to everyone.

We also talk about the rumour of new films coming soon or that are about to start filming such as The Devil Wears Prada 2, If Follows 2 and Mission Impossible 8.

Then, there is a nice little interlude. We end with James dropping off early which leaves Kev and Drew slightly tipsy being silly discussing Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Matthew McConaughey and Herbert the Pervert. We end on a lovely note with an audience question from Dani.

We discuss MaXXXine, Long Legs and In A Violent Nature finally. Kev has seen them all but they weren't all in every cinema across the UK which was a disappointment for James and Drew. Some of us praise the independent filmmakers and companies such as a24 and NEON for pushing boundaries and giving movie goers unique, fresh and brave movie concepts (even if they don't always succeed at the box office) as opposed to the big companies mainly feeding us sequels and safe content.

It starred Elijah, Miriam Margolyes, Professor Green and was Produced by 'Three Wise Monkeys'. Kev even had a small role in the film playing 'Shifty Lad 2'. You can find the Short on Youtube. Elijah is full of life and you can see and hear the pure joy he has in discussing movies and the industry. We discuss strange auditions and Drew also being an actor adds to the strangeness. It was so much fun speaking to Elijah that we ended up talking longer than expected and we will arrange a sequel as we have so much more to discuss. Elijah is knowledgeable and a huge fan of cinema from martial arts to comedy and everything in-between.

He's a well known actor anywhere but in Scotland he is part of an TV institution that multiple generations grew up with. We discuss how he got started in acting, theatre, Scottish TV shows and being in the biggest crime drama Taggart. Colin has lots of interesting and funny anecdotes and we have a great conversation over many subjects, we wish we could've spoken to him for much longer. What an honour it was and we hope to have him back on in the near future.

This is a change in tone for the studio and we feel this has paid off as we can't stop thinking about it. Marvel should be simple and cinematic with lots of CGI, this feels like an indie film with practical effects and dramatic actors with deep character performances that make you care about all the individuals. It is hilarious at times without being silly and emotional through relatable trauma. This is truly a new direction that we hope will continue to grow.

Kev especially expected it to be terrible but I think most were pleasantly surprised. We discuss the actors, the theme and the sequel coming out next year. We also discuss his passion for being a positive person in the industry by being an ambassador for CALM the charity which is dedicated to helping people who are struggling or in crisis. The intro explains the thought process about what the podcast is about then we discuss some of the subjects that has come up during his many guest interviews of experts in different fields all relevant to the subject of men. We found this conversation very engaging and we would have loved to talk for much longer so we hope there will be a second part to this conversation and perhaps we have a further guest to mix the opinions and discourse up even more. Simeon has a great outlook on life and his podcast is exploring many interesting avenues and can really open your mind to new thought processes, we very much recommend you take a listen.

Now it has been out in the cinema for a few weeks he is able to talk freely about his role, what happened on set, what he learned and the experience of working with the greatest movie star alive. We enjoy listening to his many stories and also discuss the older films of Tom Cruise and the impact 80s movies still have on us today. We end with a fun quiz on the movie and what Tom Cruise has lined up next. It was a thrill to see Paul up on the big screen toe to toe with Tom and we expect more great things from him in the future and wish him all the success.

[Some serious subjects discussed] We had a fun conversation and a laugh with the man that is well known for the opposite: Lewis Saunderson the actor famous for his distressing, raw and emotionally captivating performances on social media with approx 2 Million followers on TikTok and with over 255k Instagram followers. Known as the TikTok Crying Guy, he reimagines emotional movie scenes, creates relevant videos to the current culture but always puts 1000% into his performances raising awareness for a variety of subject matters. We discuss how he progressed to this place in life after finding out how our Drew met and worked with Lewis a couple of decades ago whilst creating a short film together. We delve into his inspiration, cancel culture, mental health and emotional movie scenes as well as a recent video he posted which received some negative press. Although we cover serious subjects which could trigger people we also have fun with a Movie quiz and delving into movies in general. We didn't get through all the questions we had for him so here's looking forward to a further episode towards the end of 2025.

Then we discuss the 2 big movies last week: The Crow and Blink Twice but no spoilers for Blink Twice as it's such a great movie Kev skirts around any information that will spoil the plot. That would be this week's recommendation to watch at the cinema, The Crow would be the opposite. We end by discussing movie titles that give away the plot.

Friend of Shed (from Ep 38) where Kate sent in a questions for us and Shed answered, this time Shed sent in a question for Kate and we play it on the episode which opens up a random topic of conversation. We discuss Kates impressive illustrations before James informs us of his hilarious delivery mishaps which are unbelievable. We do finally get to movies, which is a generous word as we discuss ridiculous movies to the standard or Sharknado. But then we start talking about old times as we grew up together in our late teenage years and 20s. An absolute blast to hang out with our substitute Drew.

In this episode we review the new M. Night Shyamalan release starring Josh Hartnett: TRAP and we all answer an audience question that has come in as a Voice Note all the way from America.
