Some of the lessons we needed most were the ones we were too young to understand at the time.

In this episode, Tyler and Steve look back at their experiences performing music, working in groups, and learning how to create alongside other people. We talk about the realities of being young adults trying to find our place, the roles we played within creative groups, and the lessons we only began to recognize years after those experiences were over.

We had to stop asking what everything would become and start allowing ourselves to create without knowing the outcome.

Every creative has abandoned an idea too early. This is the story of the one that almost never saw the light of day for reasons you might not expect.

Today’s episode pulls all the insecurities out and gets down into the real meat and potatoes here at Behind The Mask. See, we get in our heads daily trying to create the perfect replica of what we see in our head, not understanding that for it to come to reality, we need to let it work its way out.

Sometimes the best way for that to happen is to allow someone the opportunity to give an unseen and maybe recently unthought view or perspective.

In this case, it’s Lyrizone explaining his situation when he needed a fresh new eyes and ears on his material and learning by just giving it room to breathe and be interpreted by someone else, not only was it able to fully come into the songs full release, he found new appreciation in letting go of the creative reins that held him in a “my way or highway” mindset for so long.

Some songs don’t fail simply because they’re written badly. They fail because we never let them become what they were supposed to be by taking a step back.

Art Of Pursuit: Three Creative Pursuits. One Surprising Truth | How We Define Success

Success looks different when you ask three people who built very different lives.

In the first episode of Art of Pursuit, we sit down as three lifelong friends and talk about what success actually means to us. From building creative businesses and brands, to running a photography business, to operating a convenience store, bakery, and gas station, our paths look very different. So does the way we measure success.

For Dave, success through DL Media has taken the form of building a photography business around work he cares about. Jacob's experience running RJR has given him a completely different perspective on business, responsibility, and what it means to keep an operation moving. And through Tyler’s own creative and business work, he had to figure out what success looks like when the goal is to build something that feels meaningful.

But when we zoom out, the conversation becomes less about business and more about life. Success can mean growing a company, creating something you're proud of, having the freedom to work on what matters to you, or simply waking up happy with the life you've built.

There isn't one version of success worth chasing. The more important question is whether you've taken the time to define what success actually means to you.
