What is Robin most proud of? After talking with her business coach, she realized she had been making excuses for not doing what she really wanted to do. Check out her amazing story of walking the Camino De Santiago in Spain, and what it brought out of her. Over two weeks, she walked 100 kilometers of the 30-day journey, injured herself, became disconnected from her group in a foreign land.

The moral of the story is 'take one step at a time into your future.' Stop worrying about stuff, just move forward!

Young Entrepreneur Success Story with Ashley Rucks

In this episode, I speak with Ashley Rucks about being an entrepreneur at 22 years old without funding from a loan. Ashley is the proprietor of Prickly Boba in Waxahachie, TX. She worked the "typical" jobs growing up and decided fairly early on that she didn't want to work for someone else. This drove her to go into business for herself. She's slowly letting herself to let go a little more of being in complete control and allowing her employees to work more on their own without her around.

Her business started in with a camper she found listed on a local seller site, and her idea took off. She bought the camper the same day she went to look at it and had so much fun designing the logo and learning day-by-day what it means to own her own business. In the beginning she had a full 9-to-5 job and worked the camper on weekends on top of that. Today she has a storefront in downtown Waxahachie, about 30 minutes south of the DFW metroplex.

Musician, songwriter, and actor Eric Oberto talks with Host Robin McCoy about his journey through success, loss, and innovation.

Eric made his first thunderous splash into the entertainment industry as the singer/songwriter/front man of the popular synth-core band Tungsten Coil.

In 2015 he was diagnosed with Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss in his right ear. Being a play-by-ear musician and songwriter, when ear malfunctioned - his ability to clearly paint musical pictures through synesthesia were severely impaired (and almost lost).

Over the next few years, he made multiple unsuccessful attempts to overcome his disability and feared that his songwriting days were over. He then became obsessed with finding a solution. In 2020 he found a path to create music using his one good ear and fill in the gaps of the broken ear by making use of computer software tools These tools allow him to visually identify frequencies that he can no longer hear, and he is now able to visually see the stereo field where sounds reside. He also found a device that allows him to independently EQ the left and right sides of his headphones. This device gives him the ability to boost all the lost hearing frequencies in the right ear to fill in the missing gaps.

These amazing tools do not make him whole again, but they do provide a new path forward to pursue his musical dreams. Now, against all odds, Eric is writing the best music of his career.

This story is so bizarre you will need to hear it twice! Eventually the charges were dropped, but the damage required extensive rebuilding of her business. Her experience helped her see the holes in the system that she could work to solve. Follow the Signs

For this episode, I'm doing something a little different: I'm going to talk about a piece of My Camino story. In August 2019 where I walked a portion of the Camino de Santiago solo. One of the mental conversations I had with myself was this idea of "Following the Signs."

Signs can come in all shapes and sizes, and are often right in front of us, we just have to look for them. Sometimes they're a little harder to follow. Sometimes we miss the signs all together and have to make the decision to quit or to turn around and get back on the path.

Whatever your destination is, remember to follow the signs and you won't lose your way.

In this episode, I speak with Lisa Uranga, of Dirt Side Sisters and Dynamic Bike Fit, about mountain biking. Lisa has been a health and fitness professional since 2007. She has serviced over 8,000 personal training sessions and has obtained certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Performance Enhancement Specialist, Corrective Exercise Specialist, and Fitness Nutrition Specialist. Lisa and her husband Carlos began mountain biking together in 2009. A few short months into their new cycling journey they began racing and were immediately hooked. Since then, she has won over 75 bike races, 5 Texas State Championships, is a certified mountain bike instructor, Level 1 Retul Fitter, and has started her own non-profit organization called Dirt Side Sisters, whose mission is to create a gateway to get more women riding mountain bikes confidently by increasing their skills and building community around them.

The Other Side of the Gun with Susan Snow

In this episode, I speak with Susan Snow about her story. Susan is a Realtor with Keller Williams Realty, servicing the Denver Metro areas of Colorado. She is the daughter of slain LAPD Detective Thomas C Williams, who killed in the line of duty October 31, 1985 when she was 16 years old.

The high-profile murder put her family in a spotlight no one asks for, traumatizing Susan and her family. After years of working through this trauma, sometimes more successful than others, Susan strives to help others.

Susan's book, "The Other Side of the Gun" tells her story from anguish and upheaval to peace and understanding.

Susan resides in Castle Rock, Colorado with her husband and youngest son, 17-year-old, Daniel. Susan is also the mother of 26-year-old Dylan and 29-year-old Trentan. She is a former hairstylist of 31 years and licensed real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty since May 2010. She has been in leadership roles within her real estate career, a coach, and an upcoming author and speaker.

Pat is the president, and CEO of We Are One Heart Foundation, Inc, a 501c3 nonprofit organization specializing in long-term care management for seniors as well as senior housing. Pat earned an Associate Degree in Nursing from South Suburban College, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Indiana Wesleyan. To support her natural entrepreneurial spirit and sales talent, Pat completed her Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Olivet Nazarene University. As a Registered Nurse, she holds a clinical background in management of geriatric patients in both acute care, home health and hospice settings. After a successful career in Medical Spa sales and marketing, Pat found her passion at the bedside through therapeutic touch and intentional presence. She successfully owned and operated Beauty Trend Mobile Spa offering spa services in the home setting for seniors who were unable to visit a brick-and-mortar location.

In this episode, I speak with Billie Anne Grigg about money management and the similarities between money and time. Billie Anne currently works for Profit First Professionals and is still part-owner of Pocket Protector Bookkeping.

Billie Anne has been a bookkeeper since before the turn of the century (this one, despite what her knees seem to think). She is a Mastery Level Certified Profit First Professional and the Lead Technical Guide (coach) for the Profit First Professionals organization. She is also a frequent contributor for NerdWallet, AccountingWeb, and other industry publications. Billie Anne started Pocket Protector Bookkeeping in 2012 to provide an excellent virtual bookkeeping and managerial accounting solution for small businesses that cannot yet justify employing a full-time, in-house bookkeeping staff. She has since transitioned principal ownership of the firm to her adult son. When she’s not guiding others to permanent profitability, Billie Anne can usually be found on a hiking trail, lost in the woods on purpose.

Helping Children Overcome Homelessness with Greg Brinkley

In this episode, I speak with Greg Brinkley with Vogel Alcove about the organization's missions to help Dallas's youngest homeless population and their families overcome the lasting and traumatic effects of homelessness. Greg is Chief Development Officer for Vogel Alcove, an author, and public speaker. He is passionate about fitness, music, personal development, traveling, and his faith in Jesus Christ. Greg aspires to live life with the purpose to inspire individuals to pursue their dreams and accomplish their goals.

Vogel Alcove is a childcare and development facility that serves children and families affected by homelessness. They partner with more than 20 different agencies, including emergency shelters and domestic violence centers. They work with both the parents, providing them with the support they need and the opportunity to continue or finish education in hopes of allowing them to find a job that pays a livable wage, and their children, working to rewire their brains and helping them to overcome the trauma that comes with being homeless.

Feeding Faith is a Christian humanitarian organization that is focused on increasing the peace, energy, and faith in Jesus Christ through healing, feeding, building, moving, and caring for those in need both domestically and internationally.

A long-time retail manger and visual designer, Kristen spent more than 30+ years in these fields before making a gradual switch to the wellness industry in 2008. She has a strong passion for helping and healing those who are struggling to heal themselves. She has worked the past few years in-depth with special needs populations such as the developmentally disabled and the elderly.

Kristen began participating on week-long mission trips in 2016, and shortly after that, she and her husband, Julian, felt that they were called to go help underserved populations full time, thus their mission, Feeding Faith, was born, and they relocated to Guatemala in early 2020.

Her long-time tag line/quote is “Find yourself and love what you find” and she feels that through humanitarian and Christian aid, this can apply to anyone who is assisted and encouraged to see themselves as they truly are; lovely, amazing, human beings, made in the image of God.

After being a stepmom and then having her first son, Julia and her husband knew they wanted to have another child; however, it wasn't a good idea for her to go through another pregnancy. That is when The Kramers looked to alternatives like becoming foster parents and eventually adoption.

In April of 2021 the Kramers got their first foster placement and adopted their son in November 2021 (all while selling their home, purchasing a new one, and moving, I might add).

ABWA is not only a business organization, but a great place to meet new friends and to become part of a community. Kella tells us how helpful and supportive and welcoming different Chapters were when she and her husband were relocated for his military career, before they even moved to the area.

"Having an association and a place to go and meet up and connect with people is really important. As a mental health advocate, I'll tell you that having those personal interactions is really good for one's mental health and well-being and can really help give you a mood-booster."

In this episode, I speak with Juliette Jones about how dogs and their humans can learn to live in a more harmonious and cohesive environment. Juliette is a dog-trainer and -lover. She is based in the DFW area but has online/virtual dog services and dog training throughout multiple time zones.

In 2019 Juliette began her educational journey into all things "dog" by attending and graduating with distinction from Victoria Stilwell Academy and began working for her mentor in Georgia. in 2020 she moved to Fate, TX, where Inquiring Noses Dog Training LLC was born, which is a force-free, reward-based virtual dog training service.

Juliette has gone on to become a Fear-Free Professional and has earned the most recognized title of Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. Her educational journey is never-ending as she is always attending various webinars and taking courses in order to keep up with the latest science in dog training.

"[Force-free dog training] means that I do not use shock collars, I don't use prong collars, I don't use choke chains or slip leads or spray bottles. I don't even yell 'no' or spank my dogs. My goal is to teach the dog what we want them to do rather than focus on what we don't want them to do. Because if we teach what we want and we reinforce it, make it the best thing ever for our dogs and teach them that it works for them, they will be more likely to preform those desirable behaviors over the undesirable behaviors when given the choice."

She earned her BFA in Graphic Design from ENMU, where her 4-year work-study job was running the sculpture/construction shop. Rhonda spent countless hours pushing the limits of materials and helping other students with tools and techniques. In Dallas, she discovered her passion is in Signage and Environmental Graphic Design - the perfect blend of design and sculpture.

Rhonda possesses a diverse set of skills and experiences in construction, real estate, sculpture, and graphic design, which make her an accomplished environmental graphic designer and signage expert. Throughout her career, Rhonda has successfully developed signage programs for various projects, including multi- and single-family communities, offices, hotels, and cities across the United States.

With her exceptional design sense, technical knowledge, and dedication to the built environment, Rhonda consistently delivers innovative and visually striking signage programs that leave a lasting impact.

In the week prior to recording this episode, her car was vandalized. "Life happens, and sometimes she's a bitch." Instead of focusing on the many negative aspects that came along with this, Lisa instead told herself to look at this as a learning experience, allowing her to change some things so, in case this happens again, she won't have as difficult a time going forward.

"When we are empowered by our money, we're able to make decisions, whether it's to grow our business or go on vacation, whatever it is, we're able to make better decisions because we know what's going on with our money."

In this episode, I spoke with Alisa Griffin about personal safety, not only for women but men as well. Alisa was a native of Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Virginia State University with a B.S. in Public Administration. She enjoyed a 30+ year career with Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Alisa was a 30-year member of the American Business Women's Association. She was named a Top Ten Business Woman in 2019. She was also a member of the Maryland Capital Chapter where she served as the Communications Chair and Chapter Advisor.

Alisa joined Damsel in Defense in 2019 right before the pandemic started. She had a desire to have a business but more importantly, a business that impacted women. As an Independent Damsel Pro, Alisa had the opportunity to share personal safety practices with women and explain how Damsel's products can help keep them and their families safe.

In spite of her health challenges, Alisa's favorite phrase was "push forward." Keep pushing despite challenges. Be an overcomer.
