This promise ultimately points to Jesus, the Son of David and eternal King.
Key passages:
2 Samuel 7:12–16God promises David that his offspring will succeed him, his kingdom will be established, and his throne will endure forever.
1 Chronicles 17:11–14A parallel account of God’s covenant promise to David.
Psalm 89:3–4God declares His covenant with David and promises to establish his line forever.
Psalm 89:34–37God says He will not violate His covenant or alter what His lips have spoken. David’s line and throne will endure.
New Testament connection:Luke 1:32–33The angel tells Mary that Jesus will be given the throne of His father David and that His kingdom will never end.
Matthew 1:1Jesus is introduced as the Messiah, the son of David and the son of Abraham.
Revelation 22:16Jesus identifies Himself as the Root and Offspring of David.
</itunes:summary><itunes:explicit>no</itunes:explicit><itunes:duration>00:27:22</itunes:duration><itunes:image href="https://hosting-media.riverside.com/media/imports/podcasts/e3099139-4998-4b00-974b-59778a89291b/13421120-1777874176035-069805b1862e6.jpg"/><itunes:season>2</itunes:season><itunes:episode>4</itunes:episode><itunes:title>

Crossing the Jordan at flood stage isn't just hard, but it's impossible. Impossible indeed for man but not for God. In Joshua 3, we see the miracle of God stopping the flood waters, so that the Israelites led by Joshua would be able to cross on dry land. In Joshua 4, we learn why God told the 12 representatives of the tribes to carry out large stones to make an altar for Him. I share two major lessons I've gleaned from these two chapters and close with encouragement from Psalm 50.

I've been blessed to still share my Bible study notes pretty regularly. With the kids at home, things get a little trickier. So, you will see a special appearance by my 8 year-old and husband in this video too!

00:18:05 - Let's read Psalm 50

00:21:30 - We need to accept Jesus Christ to receive God's deliverance

Central thought: Consecrating our hearts daily prepares us to be usable by God to victoriously extend His Spiritual territory.

Preparation of Our Hearts to Extend God’s Kingdom:

Obedience and Consecration to the Lord

v. 1-8 Joshua circumcised the Israelites at Gilbeath Haaraloth

- This act of obedience is sandwiched between the miraculous crossing of the Jordan River and the Fall of Jericho.

- A renewal of the covenant God made with Abraham. Those who were not yet circumcised were still technically outside the covenant. The important point here is that if you are outside the covenant, you cannot inherit the promises of God.

- Like so, if our hearts are yet to be circumcised and placed in right standing with God, we also cannot enter into a relationship with Jesus Christ and enter Spiritual rest for our souls.

Shame rolled away

v. 9 “Then the LORD said to Joshua, “This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal (means “rolling”) to this day.”

shame has been rolled away

Exciting time…they are now truly free to settle in the Promise Land, multiply, be fruitful and extend His Kingdom and bless the nations of the world. And through this group of people will come our Messiah Jesus Christ.

Celebrating the Last Passover in the Wilderness: Remembering God’s rescue and provision.

v. 10 - 12

The first passover was in Egypt (Exodus 12).

1st Passover in the wilderness at Sinai was 1 year after they left Egypt. God commanded Moses. Passover in the wilderness on the 14th day of the 1st month (Numbers 9:1-14)

They had lamb but no grain, because of the nature of their journey.

Signifies that their freedom has not yet been complete because they had not yet entered the Promise Land - a land of rest where they can settle, grow and farm wheat.

So they still had to wait for God’s daily provision of manna. As there was now food from the land, God’s provision of manna changed. God will now provide in a different way and require something of His people. And now, the Israelites can work the on the land that God has given them to bear fruit. A picture of God equipping us with the tools and materials we need to provide for ourselves and our community.

As we grow in maturity, we have more responsibilities = same for spiritual growth

/// Lessons I’ve Learned:

1. Remember God’s provision and goodness.

God’s provision can change but God never changes.

2. Leadership lesson: A heavy burden when leaders need to make an extremely unpopular decision.

3. Check the condition of our hearts before we accept an assignment from God. Consecration comes before the work. Consecration is Compulsory for Conquest in Christ. Get rid of any callousness before you serve: Ephesians 4:17-24

/// Lessons I’ve Learned:

1. Hold on to the right gospel. Have a right understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2. Trust that God’s word does not fail. His promises are sure.
3. Don’t give into the temptation to look for another saviour. Know that the Lord is enough.

I want to stress how having a right understanding of the Gospel of Christ is the most important thing in life. It doesn’t matter who you are or where your from…how much education you have. The one common problem we all have as human beings is sin

The gospel of Christ is the only solution to the sin problem of mankind. Since the first book of the Bible, there has been a war against God and His children who were made in His image. We see this war throughout the entire old testament. But God had a plan and we know that at the end He wins. And those who put their trust in Jesus Christ, God’s only son, also wins.

Joshua 6 records how God brought down the impressive and well-fortified city of Jericho down after the Israelites led by Joshua faithfully marched around the city as God had commanded. In addition to this story displaying God's power in this miracle, it taught me three major lessons of being mindful of God even in the "mundane marching" before seeing a break-through.

Timestamps:

00:01:20 - Let's read Joshua 6

00:08:16 - God doesn’t need us to do anything to bring the walls down, but He wants to use us.

00:12:14 - Our faithfulness in the mundane isn’t wasted.

00:14:36 - Don’t be discouraged when some things that God asks us to do be seem too simple, too boring, or too easy. Undergird the mundane activities with the faith that God is always at work no matter what.

Well, it’s likely that within this week, we will encounter a rude person one way or another before the week is out. Should we turn the other cheek, ignore, and just let our frustrations with this person ferment? Read on, it may be toxic if you do.
For starters, rude behaviour and rude speech have negative effects on our emotional health. Rude behaviour begets rudeness one way or another. The act of being rude or being on the receiving end of rudeness can damage our emotional health and productivity. A rude interruption during a meeting may not end up in an all-out argument or physical confrontation, but there will be subtle ways you respond negatively to the instigator.
Michael P. Leiter, PhD, Professor of Organizational Psychology at Deakin University in Geelong, Australia, defines rudeness. It is when a person behaves in a way that doesn’t align with the way someone else might think is appropriate or civil, “You can’t really assume that the people you’re encountering share your core values about how people should get along.”
Rudeness can be unintentional or intentional. A lot of the rudeness that we encounter is actually unintentional. We see it often here in Bangkok and many large cosmopolitan cities during our daily commute. Everyone seems to be in a hurry and are rushing to get themselves somewhere fast whether it’s in the trains or on the roads and rude behaviour is bound to happen. While making your way through BTS stations and on the trains in the morning rush, bumping into each other without apologising, your weekdays start with emotional stress because of these rude triggers. So being rightfully frustrated, you find yourself elbowing your way into the crowded train.
Or if you’re driving, you are likely to be cut off by a car that is trying to change lanes suddenly. Perhaps they weren’t able to understand what Google maps meant when it announced the left turn 200 meters earlier. You respond by honking and cursing out loud in your car.
Then, there’s intentional rudeness. This kind of person has made it a habit to be rude with the goal of getting attention. Do you notice sometimes that rude people tend to be more confident and stand out? And they may even seem to be more successful because of their outspokenness. There has been a study about how we are actually secretly impressed with them even if we don’t like them. This happens to the extent that we even overlook the rudeness and accept their posturing themselves as a "strong leader".
Rudeness can be a form of power play, a display of authority, showing “who’s the boss”. Obnoxious rude behaviour sprouts from narcissism and a core belief of entitlement. They believe their agenda is more important than yours and so their time more important than yours. Their rude obnoxiousness sure does get attention.

In Leviticus 11, God gives the Israelites a list of clean and unclean animals to preserve and protect the. In Mark 7:1-23, Jesus declares that all foods are clean. Is God contradicting Himself?

From my Bible study notes, I share how I learned that Jesus cares more about what comes out of a man than what goes in. It is the things that we consume through our eyes and minds that defiles our hearts, and consequently, from that unclean heart, we exude the aroma of the world more than the aroma of Christ. I share five ways to maintain a clean heart so that we can spread the aroma of Christ to the world and draw people to Him.

Timestamps:

00:02:22 Let's read Leviticus 11

00:08:43 The purpose of clean and unclean animals

00:10:40 Let's read Mark 7:1-23

00:14:10 The greater danger of defiling our hearts

00:15:00 The filtration system we need to keep our hearts and words clean

00:16:50 Does our aroma point to Christ? Do we smell more like the world?

00:17:35 Check the health of our filtration system

00:18:00 5 Ways to keep our hearts clean

Hard times can harden our hearts. 🖤Everyone is suffering in business one way or another because of the COVID pandemic and the government's lacking response to help businesses. These conditions can make business owners not only cut costs but also cut corners to survive.

For any business owners reading this, have you been tempted to do this? Let me warn you that if you fall into the trap of cutting corners to stay alive, it will not be worth it in the end because you could end up losing trust and credibility with your clients and suppliers.

And when you do it once, here's what happens to your heart:

1. It becomes hardened because deep inside you will feel guilty for cutting corners at your customers' expense. And if no one calls you out on it, you'll think you've gotten away with it and your heart hardens just a little more.

2. Eventually, you will be a business person who may be successful financially, but deep down you are guilty of cheating others. The guilt you try to bury will eat away at your soul. And that is a sad predicament.

✨So don't let these hard economic times harden your heart.

I was encouraged by Proverbs 11 verse 1 and verses 24-26 the other day. I was reminded that while I am in this worldly economy, as a Christ-follower, I am also in God's economy. These ancient words of wisdom remind me that when I am generous even when it's hard to give, it can also be the most fulfilling I can do. When the act of giving costs you something, it is true sacrificial giving.

It's an act of trust and expression of faith - trusting that my God can provide for me when I give to others who really need it. I think that at the core, being grateful for more than the material things that we have allows us to be in a heart position to give either with grace or financial help to those who really need it. When we are reminded that there are a lot of people doing worse off than us, we cancel our own pity party and start to looking outward at ways we can practically help others.

I have my own personal testimonies of how God has come through when I give even when it's hard, not just when business is slow, but when suppliers or customers take advantage or outrightly cheat. Lots of lessons and experiences revealing my own heart through it all. It would have been very easy for me to harden my heart and be cynical over the years. Doing business is challenging in any season, but it's been a tough couple of years, hasn't it! It's been a long tough season, but I continue to see His goodness through it all.

Joash began his life as a miracle. He was rescued as a baby, hidden in the temple, restored to the throne, and mentored by the faithful priest Jehoiada. Under Jehoiada’s guidance, Joash did what was right and even led efforts to repair the temple of the Lord.

But after Jehoiada died, Joash’s faithfulness began to unravel. His story reminds us that it is possible to start well, be surrounded by godly people, and still fail to finish well if our faith never becomes deeply rooted in God for ourselves.

This episode invites us to examine the “high places” we may still be holding on to, the way we respond under pressure, and whether we are truly trusting God or simply leaning on the faith of others.

Supporting Scripture

1 Peter 5:8 — Be alert and sober-minded because the enemy prowls like a roaring lion.

1 Corinthians 10:12 — If you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall.

Psalm 20:7 — Some trust in chariots and horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord.

Philippians 2:12–13 — Continue to work out your salvation, for God is at work in you.

2 Timothy 4:7 — I have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.

Key Themes:

Joash did what was right while Jehoiada instructed him, but his faith was deeply dependent on his mentor. Godly mentors are a gift, but they cannot replace our personal walk with God.

Even during Joash’s better years, the high places were not removed. This reminds us that partial obedience can leave room for future compromise.

Joash wanted to repair the temple, but the project needed clear administration and accountability. When the people trusted that the money would be used properly, they gave generously.

When Syria threatened Jerusalem, Joash gave away the sacred treasures of the temple instead of seeking the Lord. Crisis does not create our faith; it reveals where our faith has already been placed.

Joash was protected, blessed, and anointed, but he did not finish faithfully. His life is a warning not to take God’s favor for granted.

Reflection Questions:

Am I relying on someone else’s faith more than cultivating my own relationship with God?

Are there “high places” in my life—areas of compromise, comfort, or divided loyalty—that I have not removed?

How do I respond when pressure comes?

Do I trust God, or do I reach for control?

Have I taken God’s protection, blessing, or favor for granted?

What have my mentors deposited into my life that I need to steward well?

What would it look like for me to finish well?

Prayer Points:

Lord, thank You for the people You have used to guide, teach, protect, and mentor me. Help me not to take them for granted.

But Lord, let my faith become my own. Teach me to walk with You personally and faithfully.

Search my heart and show me any “high places” I have left untouched. Reveal hidden compromise, divided loyalty, or familiar sin that I have grown too comfortable with.

When pressure comes, help me not to trade sacred things for temporary safety. Give me courage to trust You even when the enemy feels close.

Lord, I do not only want to begin well. I want to finish well.

In Jesus' Name, I pray.
