I asked the Overwhelmed Gamer community to name their Top 5, tallied the votes, and the results included some of the biggest Nintendo Entertainment System classics ever made.

But one game was missing from the final Top 5—and I couldn’t believe it.

Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!

In this episode of The Overwhelmed Gamer Podcast, I reveal the community’s Top 5 NES games, dig into some of the most surprising picks and biggest outliers, and then tell my own story with one of my favorite Nintendo games of all time.

I never actually owned Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! as a kid. The game was so hard to get that I had to borrow it from friends and rent it whenever I had the chance. But somehow, one morning before school, I finally did what every kid on the playground claimed they could do: I beat Mike Tyson.

First by decision. Eventually by TKO.

I talk about the playground hype surrounding Punch-Out!!, what it was like slowly learning every fighter, why finally beating Tyson became one of my favorite childhood gaming memories, and how the game holds up when played today.

In this episode:

The community’s Top 5 NES games of all time

The biggest surprises and strangest picks from the voting

Why Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!! missed the Top 5
