Now it’s largely an exit ramp, a way for pre-IPO investors to cash out, while roughly $18 trillion in private capital backs the next generation of companies before the public ever gets a shot at them. Add in a regulatory bill that costs public companies millions a year just to exist, and you’ve got a system that’s quietly locked most of America out of real wealth creation.
