He discusses the importance of cultural identity, resilience, and systemic change in healthcare and beyond. Inia shares his incredible journey through military service, ultra running, and his inspiring initiative to support youth through extreme challenges. Discover lessons on resilience, leadership, and pushing human limits.<br /><br />Inia is a Senior Emergency Doctor at Auckland City Hospital with a special interest in trauma, sports medicine, pre-hospital medicine, and health advocacy. He co-leads the ED's Manaaki Mana rōpū, overseeing cultural safety, tikanga, and liaison with Māori health services. Prior roles include retrieval doctor for Westpac Rescue, Medical Officer Captain in the NZDF, and sports doctor/physiotherapist. An accomplished ultra-endurance athlete, Inia is the first New Zealander and first person in the world to complete the 4 Deserts Grand Slam twice, and the first person to complete a self-supported multi-stage ultramarathon on every continent within a single calendar year. He founded the Kia Mau, Kia Ora scholarship to support rangatahi in pursuing their own ambitious goals.
