Step-by-Step Guide for your New Year:

Step 1:
Last year is over. Pick one pattern you don't want to repeat, LET THE REST GO and Forgive yourself.

Step 2:
Craft your juicy Vision of what you want your life to look like at the beginning of December 2023.

Step 3:
Google the wheel of life. Rate each section and pick three that are not only the most important, but the 3 sections that if they completely transform, will have the biggest domino effect on the rest of your life. 

  • Brain Dump for Each section all the goals you want to achieve this year
  • For Each section, pick 1 goal out of each brain dump that again, will have a domino effect on the rest of the goals you wrote in the brain dump
  • You should now have 3 domino goals, one for each section 

Step 4:
Find and be honest about the biggest reason you think you can't or won't achieve each domino goal. You can use the following statement "I really want 'x' , but...." 

  • Take each limiting belief or unconscious conflict and run it through the DIC dismantling questions 
  • Identify your new empowering belief 

Step 5:
Who do I get to be? Who is the version of yourself who had already achieved that goal? What do they believe, what type of thoughts do they have, what type of energy do they have? etc. Get as specific as possible.

Step 6: 3 small steps for each domino goal.

During my stay, I navigated through the complex practices of Zen Buddhism, understanding the different lineages such as Soto Zen and Rinzai Zen, and learning the detailed customs that shape Soto Zen practice. Experience with me the daily schedule of the Zen practice period, the significance of taking breaks, and how chanting ingeniously incorporates elements of Shinto and shamanism. But this spiritual journey was also a cultural one, where I rediscovered my Afrikaans heritage, finding a sense of identity and pride within the monastery walls.

In the final chapter of this exploration, I shared how Buddhist precepts were incorporated into our daily lives, including non-violence and vegetarianism.
